Silicon Valley
Silicon Valley has been recognized as a global technology center since
the early 1970s after the invention of the microprocessor. It has been
constantly evolving and adapting ever since. Having weathered the
collapse of the dot-com bubble, the region is on the upswing again. A
new generation of entrepreneurs and companies has set up shop, with an
emphasis on biomedical research, biotechnology, medical devices and
computer software, among other technologies. But while the industry
makeup may change, Silicon Valley’s environment of innovation has not:
the amount of venture capital invested in the Bay Area – one-third of
the national total – has remained steady.
StayLaw’s Silicon Valley office provides practical legal
services for both deal-oriented, emerging growth clients and established
public companies with a high-energy, team approach. We counsel today’s
venture-backed and private technology companies striving to become
tomorrow’s Fortune 500.
Our emerging growth team advises clients on matters involving fund
formation, company formation, private equity, venture and debt
financings, leveraged buy-outs and mergers and acquisitions. We also
represent the investors themselves, with local fund formation attorneys
supported by a large national group. We also have a vibrant
international transactional practice with a particular focus on Asia,
including Greater China, Japan and Taiwan.
StayLaw’s Silicon Valley IP group focuses on strategic counseling,
transactional work and litigation services for both emerging and
established technology companies. Our experience also encompasses
licensing and commercial agreements, outsourcing agreements and open
source consulting.
Our domestic and international tax team focuses on advisory and tax
controversy services for multinational and domestic corporations and
partnerships and U.S. and non-U.S. individuals.
The Silicon Valley real estate practice is geared toward developers,
institutional owners and users in the office, research and development,
manufacturing, retail and hotel resort sectors.
Working in conjunction with StayLaw’s Sacramento and DC offices, our
governmental affairs practice represents companies and trade
associations before the California Legislature, state and federal
administrative and enforcement agencies, and the U.S. Congress.
The Silicon Valley litigation group, closely integrated with the firm’s
national practice, focuses on the business, real estate, and employment
disputes that are often faced by our clients.
Our commitment to the community reflects the firm’s tradition of service
and our strong ties to the area. Our attorneys include the Executive
Director of Stanford University Law School's Center for E-Commerce; a
former president of the Association of Corporate Patent Counsel, the
leading national association of chief IP counsels for U.S. businesses;
and a former Bay Area Policy Director under California Governor Pete
Wilson. In addition, we hold leadership positions or are otherwise
actively involved in organizations such as the San Francisco Lawyers
Committee for Civil Rights, The Mozilla Foundation and the Ronald
McDonald House at Stanford. |
