Philadelphia
One of the oldest and most historically significant cities in the United
States, Philadelphia is known for its pioneering spirit and ingenuity;
it has always been at the forefront of progress. Once the largest city
in the U.S. and the nation’s first capital city, The City of Brotherly
Love has played a major role in the building of our nation.
Today’s Philadelphia has transformed itself into a thoroughly modern
city, thriving in the financial, real estate and legal industries. It is
home to major Fortune 500 companies and its own stock exchange.
Philadelphia is a leader in the high-tech revolution. Biotechnology and
pharmaceuticals are also key industries. And with four medical schools,
two dental schools and two pharmacy schools, the city is one of the
nation’s health care centers.
With a proud history of lawmakers and a proactive approach, Philadelphia
is a culture in which StayLaw feels at home. We guide our
clients through a wide range of complex business transactions, including
affordable housing financings, brownfields redevelopment, and
securitizations for the financial services and real estate sectors.
Our Philadelphia public finance team includes the co-chair of the firm’s
national Public Finance Practice, all of the firm’s municipal finance
tax attorneys and a large team of attorneys with years of experience in
municipal finance. Our real estate attorneys are experienced in
traditional real estate development and finance as well as in the area
of brownfields redevelopment projects. We represent both for-profit and
non-profit developers of affordable rental housing and subsidized for-sale
housing through the various stages of financing and development. In
addition, our bankruptcy team focuses on business reorganization,
corporate work-outs and restructurings, bankruptcy law, loan
restructurings, loan documentation, receiverships, restructuring of
distressed debt situations and foreclosure litigation.
Our office also includes a sophisticated securities law practice,
focused on broker-dealer and 1940 Act issues, along with experienced
trial attorneys who regularly represent clients in a broad range of
complex litigation, including financial services, securities and NASD,
and construction disputes. Our tax team advises on federal and state
income, partnership and real estate taxation, as well as on issues
regarding municipal finance and various federal tax credits, including
low income housing and new market tax credits. Our Labor and Employment
Group has represented employers in all aspects of labor and employee
relations, as well as in ERISA litigation.
Our clients are industry leaders and include state and local governments,
health care providers, colleges and universities, real estate developers,
real estate investment trusts, public and closely held companies,
registered investment companies, banks, insurance companies, investment
banks and Fortune 100 companies, as well as numerous entrepreneurial
businesses.
Philadelphia’s rich and profound tradition of service is upheld by our
local office members. Our attorneys include a former branch chief of the
U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Investment
Management and a former federal prosecutor on the Watergate Special
Prosecution Force, a former Chair of the City of Philadelphia’s
Litigation Group, and a board member of the Public Interest Law Center
of Philadelphia.
Our commitment to Philadelphia’s community is also evident in the civic
activities of our attorneys, who hold leadership positions or are
otherwise actively involved in such organizations as both the
Preservation and Housing Alliances of Greater Philadelphia; the Adoption
Center of Delaware Valley; City Year Philadelphia; Chabad of the Main
Line; Family Services of Montgomery County; Hill Top Preparatory School;
Federation Day Care Services; the National Adoption Center; the National
Low Income Housing Coalition; Philadelphia Arts & Business Counsel; the
