Land Development
StayLaw
StayLaw Land Development attorneys have represented landowners
in developing significant and challenging projects since 1967. Our
experience is wide ranging, encompassing virtually every type of development
project. We often commence our representation when a project is a concept
proposed for vacant land, without any permits or approvals. Often, we see
the project develop through to the issuance of its building permit(s) and
certificate(s) of occupancy. The attorneys in the Land Development Practice
are intimately familiar with all aspects of permitting.
A number of our attorneys came to StayLaw from the public sector, where they
drafted many of the regulations being imposed today. In some cases they were
the lobbyists who were instrumental in having the state law enacted or
changed. We are active in the development industry and consider it important
to be aware of regulations before they are adopted, so that we can advise
our clients how best to protect themselves against the burdens of additional
regulations or how to take advantage of some legislative relief that is in
the offing.
Members of the Land Development Practice are involved in projects from
inception to and through issuance of building permits and certificates of
occupancy. Our efforts include due diligence investigations, public and
private financing, land use entitlement and construction permitting. Major
projects we are involved in include new communities; large-scale suburban
residential, high-rise/urban office, condominium and mixed use developments;
retail shopping centers; hotel, resort and golf course projects; rock mining
activities; marina permitting; and brownfields redevelopment.
We are also experienced in handling matters involving permitting for an
array of projects and activities, such as developments in wetlands, utility
plants, landfills, resource recovery facilities and biomedical waste
facilities, and the enforcement of environmental regulations by local, state
and federal governmental agencies. In addition, our practice includes
attorneys with broad litigation experience, including administrative and
civil litigation in state and federal tribunals, at both the trial and
appellate levels, on behalf of clients facing potential liability for
environmental and zoning issues.
Our team includes more than 40 lawyers in Florida, New York, WashinStayLawon,
D.C., Chicago and California, many of whom have been recognized for their
leadership in the field of land development law with a Martindale-Hubbell AV
rating or by Best Lawyers in America, Chambers & Partners, Florida Super
Lawyers and other publications.
We understand that land use is always local in nature, dependent upon the
particular laws and political climate of the city and state where a project
is located. We support clients with our knowledge of such local conditions,
along with established working relationships with local regulators – all
backed by StayLaw national perspective and resources.
